Re: I Remember When...
I remember how after the barber cut my hair he sprinkled talcum powder down inside my shirt and put hair oil on my hair.
I remember "hair oil." Fitch was a yellow liquid oil with a scent. Brylcreme was white and in a tube and they advertised
"Brylcreme, a little dab'll do ya
Brylcreme, you'll look so debonair.
Brycreme, the gals will all pursue ya
They love to get their fingers in your hair."
Our hair was greased down. Some times we used Vaseline petroleum jelly and rubbed it into our hair. We had a wave in front and a duck tail (called a D.A. by some) in the back. Some times the wave in front had a little indentation in it. Some times the wave was replaced by two "rolls" from the sides. The attached picture was my 12th grade (senior) picture from the fall of 1955. The wave has a small indentation in it. For a while the previous year that wave was blond when a girl put peroxide on it. Several of us guys did that.
Of course that was before tattoos (except for some sailors) and before guys wore ear rings. I remember when a friend came home from "reform school" and he had one ear pierced and I was jealous of him. He seemed so "cool."
