I believe in provision and planning ahead. I'm a mother of three, after all.
However, if I sat around and envisioned all of the terrible possibilities that could occur in the future, and negatively affect the health, safety and wellbeing of my children, I would shortly have a heart attack, or at least an anxiety attack. My imagination can take me terrible places very quickly, especially when it comes to my children.
The truth is, that while we can and should provide for the future, that we still must at the end of the day place our worries and cares with God where they belong. If things truly go bad, it will be bad for everyone--including those with a few extra groceries, ammo and gold in their safe.
I'm not saying one shouldn't plan.
Look at Joseph--planned ahead for a 7 year famine, and ended up aiding the family who had (mostly) forsaken him. God does give us the wisdom to make good decisions, but yet, none of the family back home could have predicted Joseph would end up in Egypt, or that he would be the one to give them food in time of famine, could they? That was purely providential intervention and care. God providing for what they couldn't possibly predict--or maybe even adequately plan for, had they known.
There are all kinds of terrible possibilities, especially when it comes to our children growing up in this world. But children have grown up in much worse times than these. And survived. And thrived. And been greater Christians with greater character because of it.
