And this is the thing, John. When you spoke about "a lot of these so-called "wrecked", wrecked themselves and the UPC is an easy blame agent", you have a very important and valid point here.
I am sure all of us have been at the cusp of anger, hurt, hatred and bitterness. It can be a severe battle of the mind and heart! We know what this feels like and we know the danger of not being patient in that situation/trial. It is a scary place to be, because you can go two ways. Go on with God or fall into that anger, hurt, hatred and bitterness, allowing it to consume you. That is the person that wrecks him/herself.
I don't speak of those that have left and gone on to greener pastures, abiding in God.
But, I have seen some who wrecked themselves. Instead of running/turning to God in that awful situation/trial, they closed themselves off and pushed away from God's help and direction.
So, yes, you have a valid point - some do wreck havoc on their own lives. The one that brought offence will answer for it, but, equally, the one offended who handled it wrong will answer with their life as well. We are accountable for our salvation and can't blame the failure on another.
2 Corinthians 2:14 "Now thanks be unto God, which always causeth us to triumph in Christ, and maketh manifest the savour of his knowledge by us in every place."
