Happy Hanukkah
Wishing a Happy Hanukkah to all. Hanukkah comes from a Hebrew word meaning “dedication” and marks the rededication of God’s Temple in Jerusalem in 165 BCE after its desecration by the forces of the King of Syria, Antiochus IV Epiphanes. It commemorates the victory of the Maccabees over their oppressors, and also commemorates the provision of God when one day’s supply of consecrated oil miraculously lasted for 8 days until a new batch could be pressed, prepared and consecrated. It is also a time to remember those who are fighting for freedom over oppressors.
