Cool...

I just ordered 6 camellia seninsis plants. This is the plant from which all tea is derived. Tea becomes green tea, orange pekoe tea, earl gray tea etc by the way it is processed once picked from the plant.

SO... this year I'm growing my own tea.

Re: What Amount Would It Take To Get You Out Of De

I chose 0-20K before realizing it meant mortgage included.

I never look at my mortgage as debt really because I owe less than half its worth. I have to live and would pay much more in rent in this area. My taxes and ins are in the payment, so I just consider that $440 a month cheap really. I would rather go back 8 years ago when the house was free and clear though.

I owe a little to a few credit cards and a small personal loan I took out that I will pay off first of Feb with my tax check.

Has anyone else noticed that we seem to fall into one extreme or the other? I'm referring to the poll. Very interesting.

We converted the garage into a 4th bedroom.
We converted the washroom into a 2nd full bath.
We put in a 16' x 16' deck out back.
Chicken coop
20' x 40' "Goat" pen. (We don't have goats at the moment)
We tore out some of the bedroom walls and went back with insulation & new sheetrock. (The upper (older) part of the house had no insulation in the walls)
Fenced in the back yard.
Put in a 36' x 36' garden
Ceramic tile in the original bath.
etc, etc, etc

My projects for this winter & early spring are to...
Finish running the pipes from the new bath to the septic.
I have some boards to replace.
I want to plant a number of fruit & nut trees.
I need to finish barbed wiring the back pasture in so we can buy another calf.

I told my son that when you go to peoples house and they have this amazing farm set up... I've learned that this happens one weekend at a time.
We planted four fruit trees two years ago. One grapefruit, one lemon, and two oranges. I just picked our very first grapefruit this morning!

The first three to leave the tree! There are still about two dozen on it.

Yes and it makes sense to me. Some people have found there homes and others hand found their homes. Both may be VERY different homes, but both are (I assume) happy.
Also some of us have just started "life" in the sense that we finally graduated college and are able to live the way we always dreamed of living. Although we have a 30 year mortgage we are on schedule to pay it off in 18. All of our student loans will be done within 15 (about 150 grand worth). So in 20, we'll be debt free AND have a pretty sizable retirement account.

It took two full years because Arizona is NOT a natural habitat for fruit trees. They do alright if they get the right amount of irrigation and shade but our Summers are still stressful. They pretty much spent the first full Summer adapting and developing enough foliage to shade their branches for the following one.
