I haven't read the whole thread and I am sure it was said, but in case it wasn't, the UPC is losing people like crazy. Some churches will "count you on the roll" if you visited once and gave a check of $1 and it shows a numbers increase. There is an alarming number of people leaving for other churches, no churches or whatever else. All that the UPC can do is try to stop the bleeding of saint out of it's doors. It is hard to keep people that are being beaten out the back door. So the AI is a type or model of what one is "suppose" to look and act like. That model is a 50 year old model and the world is not the same. It is like saying that the saints in the 40's and 50's couldn't have been like Paul, Peter and all the others...the world was different so the saints were different too. IMO

I do believe there is a difference between having a disagreement and being disrespectful. I know some folks would take a certain satisfaction if the leadership of the UPC officially backed off certain standards, but at the end of the day there are precious souls involved in the UPC, and that includes its leadership.

It is not my job or lifes mission to convince someone they are wrong in what they believe concerning there personal walk with Jesus. We need to love each other, in spite of differences. Sure there are some extreme cases of abuse and even cult like tendencies, and even these folks need healing and need Christ.

I'm not trying to gloss over this thread or be super mushy, but love covers a multitude of sins, we really need to pray for our brothers and sisters in this hour.

Perspective is everything in what they discussed. To them many things 99.9% of Christians consider extra biblical they consider biblical (like uncut hair on women, prohibtions on jewelry, makeup, pants on women, etc). That leaves not a whole lot they consider "extra biblical".

The UPC always counts attendance on Easter Sunday, when attendance is at it's peak.
