Very good thoughts.

Of late, I have added reading one chapter a day from Bro. Groce's book Think On These Things into my morning devotion.............

Re: The Two Lost Disciplines of My Generation

On Saturday the snow was coming down heavy here. But so gently. I had to make a stop at our church for something. When I got out of the van to walk in, it hit me - the silence. The stillness. The quietness. The sound was so beautiful. More beautiful than any music I have ever heard in my life. It was as if there were a holy hush covering the earth at that moment. I had to stop, stand still and worship because I knew - I just knew - that I was standing in the Presence of God.

We miss out on that because of all of the extras we "have to have" so often, don't we? I want to make it a point to stand in holy silence much more often.

Re: The Two Lost Disciplines of My Generation

Coonskinner, loved your post.

I'd just add one comment. I'm not sure of your definition of 'young people'. I'm 48 and when I think young, I'm thinking teenagers and 20 somethings. But I noticed some years back that many of my generation (who are in their 40s) also tend to avoid silence. I don't think this is a new issue but rather one that is more pervasive than ever before.

I just turned 41 and find myself falling into the same pattern if I am not vigilant to maintain my alone time with the Lord.

There are things God wants to tell us that He won't say while we are in the midst of a crowd.

Re: The Two Lost Disciplines of My Generation

I am older than both of y'all. And I am that way, sort of. Although I have my devotions in the mornings, at night is when I really have alone time with God.
