I had an unsettling day today as my youngest son called me from the city he lives in and told me he had witnessed a horrible fatality.
As he was heading up an entrance ramp to an interstate the cars ahead of him suddenly slowed down and stopped. He had plenty of time to do the same but instinctively looked in his mirror to see what was going on behind him.
He saw a pickup truck going very fast coming up behind him and he knew there was no way they could stop. At the last second or two before impact apparently the pickup driver looked up and realized traffic had stopped and they were about to plow into the rear end of my sons vehicle.
The pickup veered sharply to the left and missed my son but in doing so lost control and veered into a semi who then lost control and as it did it crushed the pickup between the semi and the concrete wall.
This all happened about 40 feet in front of my son and he said he knew there was no way anybody could have survived because the truck was crushed flat.
My son was just sick (and freaked out) that someone had died trying to avoid rear ending him. He had wished the person had just hit him as they probably all would have survived.
Now tonight the accident was on the local news and miraculously the woman and two small children in that pickup not only survived but were hospitalized with non life threatening injuries. In fact one of my sons contacts told him they have already been released from the hospital.
If you have a broadband connection watch the video beside the news story in the link I am posting. You will be amazed that anybody survived this wreck when you see the pickup. My son said he will now sleep tonight. I hope this mom realizes that God had his hand on her and her two children today. She needs to pay better attention while driving.
