A great debating technique is to actually accuse others of what you are guilty yourself.

What was your point?

I grow weary and sickened of those who are constantly on here harping about the injustice done to them by an "organization".
Grow up.
If you are so liberated and free now, get out there and do something for God.
There are some on here who have left the "mothership" and are actually out there making a difference.
I don't see those individuals attacking the UPC.
It is just those who want to stay in their "victim" mentality that usually try this underhanded attack.
Just don't try to pretend the entire point of this thread was not to attack the UPC.
I've been around too long for that.

Never was my intent to irrirate, and you are correct...I don't know you. And your definition of attack sure sounds like a pastor has implanted it into you somewhere down the line. But, you've boldy shown me you stand firm for the divisive, oh so holy attitude of many within the organization. I am free from it, I've been "liberated." And I can say, without the need to worry about my appearance and all the unnecessary dos and dont's, the blessings have been plenty away from the UPC mold, much like they were when I was still part of it. Believe me, there will be more who will say them leaving the UPC was the best thing that ever happened to them, aside from their salvation/receiving the holy ghost. Time is too short and God is too good to get caught up in a web of tradition and confusion as many have done...

Bottom line is that our faith should never be displayed in a selfish, it's-all-about-me manner. May as well be singing it's my party and I'll cry/shout/dance if I want to. Who's party is it when we're talking spiritual matters?

Did you intend this thread to be a slam to the org?
I would hope you would also listen to several on this thread who are not in the org, who also saw no problem with the song.
My experience in the UPC has not been the same as yours, obviously.
And I ask you who is showing self-righteousness here, you or me.
You continue to cite your liberty, freedom, and new-found spiritualness.
Any newbie who comes on here and says that any woman who wears pants or makeup is bound for hell will surely draw the ire of several posters.
You are displaying the same attitude by bragging about your liberty and freedom thereby implying that anyone else is in bondage and is also bound for hell.

My initial intent for this thread was to point out something so blazingly obvious with the lyrics to a song. "We've been known to get wild...let our hair hang down...(unable to tell)...rollin' on the ground...cranked up the music, danced all around...We're the Pentecostals, baptized in Jesus' name...etc, etc, etc. Again, it's all about "I/me/my." I did not attack the org as you insist, merely something I pointed out as selfishness and arrogance in a song. And you chimed in staunchly defending the org. You can say what you want, and so can I; oftentimes it's difficult to decipher tone via text. At the end of the day, did either of us make a difference in someone else's life without the tone of condemnation? I'm not in any way, shape, or form insinuating that one who's in religious bondage is going to hell. As I said earlier, I'm trying to get people to wake up and realize the small box they're living in and thinking from just isn't gonna cut it for long. And to sing a song so full of pride, boasting of Pentecost, Pentecost, Pentecost...and all the things they're known for...is a reeking hinderance to pulling people from the world into salvation and/or redemption the way God meant for it to happen.

My sincere apologies to you for coming across any other way; as I said I was not bound and determined to irritate you or anyone else by starting this thread. Granted, I love many of the songs sung by Pentecostals; a majority of them are more balanced in the message they are conveying and I'd crank it up as loud as I can. Unfortunately, this one particular song, got my attention in an undesirable way.

I shudder every time I hear the song "I Am a Pentecostal." Hopefully, not all UPC-ers have this self-centered mentality. Jack Cunningham, a high-profile UPC leader said something very refreshing (but somewhat surprising):

"Our leaders do not think they are the only people who are saved. We are just a fingernail on the little finger of the body of Christ."

I remember when my pastor debated Rick Ross on a radio show.
Rick Ross does not have any of Christ in him, at all.
