I believe there is only one way to being saved and that is through Jesus Christ alone by faith in Him and what He did. Our "Lifestyles" don't save us, that's works. Our Lifestyles should be a by-produce of being saved plus we should want to be living witnesses for Jesus after what He did for us....it is our reasonable service

I don't think any Standard keeper is truely separate from the world according to their idea of separation unless they live in a cave or are Amish

Apostolic is defined on AFF as:

  1. There is One God. This one God reveals Himself distinctly as Father, Son and Holy Ghost.
  2. The Son is God himself in a human form or "God manifested in the flesh" (1Tim 3:16)
  3. Every sinner must repent of their sins.
  4. That Jesus name baptism is the only biblical mode of water baptism.
  5. That the Holy Ghost is for today and is received by faith with the initial evidence of speaking in tongues.
  6. The saint will go on to strive to live a holy life, pleasing to God.

I agree with you, but I couldn't help but think back.

I do remember though what is was like to actually live a standard. There was a period of about 12 years that I didn't see a movie, watch tv, listen to anything but a Christian radio Station. Would not go to a restaurant that had a bar in it. Would not go out to lunch with people from work because I was worried they might tell a bad joke, or cuss. Went to church every morning before work to pray before work. Was in church everytime the doors were open. Was in the Choir. Taught Sunday School. Bus Ministry, knocking doors, ect ect. I pretty much felt like I was separate from the world.

We had revival, souls were saved, in a few years we grew from 20 to 500+ people.

Something happened though, people started getting that attitude that others were disgusting sinners, and no one, even other Apostolics were as good as us. No one could be as holy as us. We got to the point where we had a bad spirit. I didn't like what we had become but I didn't know what to do.

Then one day the pastor said that he wasn't going to preach/enforce standards anymore. I backslid hard core. It's taken me a several years to repair my walk with God. I'm still confused, still shaken, still damaged.

Maybe it's like the man of God had a hedge around me, but I didn't have one myself.

Wow!!! The Lord can love a confused, shaken, and still damaged Human Being! He can love you when you're lost, drifting, and unsure! He will leave the 99 for YOU! He will wait for you, like a Father waits for his broken and hurt child!

IMO, I have no doubt, God has never left you! Also, have mercy on your old pastor. We carry a load that others know nothing about. Our choices affect many, and this burden can be overwhelming to the point of feeling hopeless.

thank you for the encouragement, and yes I still see and love my old pastor and pray for all the pastors that I can think of when I pray, I can imagine that it is a heavy burden to carry as well as a joy.

That's great! I had a pastor back in the late 70's that really blew it! He fell off the deep, deep end. He eventually picked up the pieces and moved on, and I know he lived with tremendous grief and guilt.

I recently came into contact with another member of that Church from years ago, and he was still in touch with my old pastor. I told my friend, please tell him that there are no hard feelings.

He was young, on fire, and the Church back then had revival! I can only imagine the weight of his failure, as the Church fell apart after this experience. He basically lost everything, including his family.

I feel I have a duty to pray for him, asking God to forgive my trespasses as I forgive those who trespass against me.

Re: Not Ashamed

Not ashamed to still teach its a sin for women to cut their hair
Not ashamed to teach against pants on women & skirts on man
Not ashamed to preach against jewelery & make-up
Not ashamed to preach against shorts on men
Not ashamed to preach against effeminate spirits in men
Not ashamed to preach against Hollywood & Tv
Not ashamed to preach against un-Godly music
Not ashamed to still be against being involved in professional sports (gods of the world)

Not ashamed to preach we must separate from the world in all areas of life
Not ashamed to preach that we must still love people while hating sin
Not ashamed to preach that there is hope for the hopeless
Not ashamed to preach against the false doctrine of the trinity
Not ashamed of the ONEness
Not ashamed of Godliness & Modesty
Not ashamed to preach we must be witnesses
Not ashamed to preach we must pray
Not ashamed to preach we must love our neighbor as ourselves
Not ashamed to preach we must love the sinner but hate sin
Not ashamed to preach we must restore a brother overtaken in fault
Not ashamed to preach there is NO Salvation outside of obedience to ACts 2:38 which is still the must have response to the Gospel of Christ on the Cross if we want to be saved.

Not ashamed to be a peculiar people
Not ashamed of Jesus Name

Bet you wear the ball cap that says "Call Me Pentecost." Well, wait a minute, it's a ball cap. You'd probably consider than a sin just for the fact of what it is and *gasp* preach against that.

I'm not ashamed of Jesus. But, He would be ashamed of me if I believed and lived a doctrine that He never institued, most of which is listed above. I said most, not all.

Jesus looked no different than many of those around Him back in His days on earth. Yet, the community knew him by his spirit and approach to situations, not by appearance...

The answer to the lost world and its extremism is not to become polar opposite and extreme the other way. There is NO way to reach anyone by doing that. Those who have been reached that way probably went through hell and high water, which is not necessary since so much of what is preached and taught among some is not Biblical. The devil can do anything but save our soul, and that includes shining light on things that appear to be Biblically correct. He's a mocker and a liar. So, let's be more considerate of what God said in His word instead of what a man puts in His mouth and speaks "Thus saith the Lord..."
