One time he and Ward Bond took a couple of Russians, who were instructed to assassinate Big John, down to the beach. Yikes! Never heard that one. I heard the 'John Wayne is gay' thing from the film Repo Man that I watched many years ago.

I would seriously doubt his being gay. He criticized Clint Eastwood for using terrible language on screen. Someone remarked to him that he uses similar foul language. His response, "I don't do it on television!"

And in McClintock, Maureen O'Hara wanted to shorten her petticoat because she thought she had such nice legs. John Wayne's response, "**** no, you can't do that. This is a family show!"

So, IMO, he still remains a Conservative, American Patriot. The man couldn't have been gay. And he loved those Mexican women!
