Re: Revival!

I agree with that, but the lady in question did not fully understand what it was she would be doing. She was viewing it as a rededication. When things were explained a little more, she felt that she needed more study. My Mom is teaching her home Bible studies, and will be dealing with this tomorrow. I have no doubt that she will see the truth.

I share the same sentiment.

Re: Revival!

I have to disagree with you. I do not like the idea of being tired for work, but as I often was working a third shift when we were in revival, the problem that I had was having to run shortly after service, or having my uniform with me so I could change at church. Either way, I did not always get to stay and fellowship. If I could choose between work and church, give me church 24/7/365. I would never be out of church if I could help it.

Re: Revival!

Revival does not imply long endless church. You can have that in a normal service as well.

Apostolic is defined on AFF as:

  1. There is One God. This one God reveals Himself distinctly as Father, Son and Holy Ghost.
  2. The Son is God himself in a human form or "God manifested in the flesh" (1Tim 3:16)
  3. Every sinner must repent of their sins.
  4. That Jesus name baptism is the only biblical mode of water baptism.
  5. That the Holy Ghost is for today and is received by faith with the initial evidence of speaking in tongues.
  6. The saint will go on to strive to live a holy life, pleasing to God.

So in other words.... "Church" and God are synonyms in your view.

And it wasn't just about being tired. After mostly hellish days at school (they ALL were) I needed nothing more than alone time at home in my room, which I rarely got because of church. Endless church.

I remember being in some particularly long song services (MOST were long) and the pastor shouting "Now imagine doing this for all eternity! This is what we ALL have to look forward to in heaven!" and me thinking "oh my.... well, I suppose it is a bit better than eternal torment.... A bit.".

Your zeal is to be commended, but you have to realize that not everyone is wired the same way and can endure an elongated series of worship gathering back-to-back throughout the week.

Don't get me wrong. I enjoy the presence of God as much as the next person. Like King David, my soul thirsts for the Lord like a Deer pants after the water brooks. But let's face it. We are human, and we grow weary in well doing.

"Revival meetings" are great, and I enjoy them, but I do not put the hefty expectation on myself that I have to attend every time the doors are open. Otherwise I will grow tired and exhausted trying to juggle the expectation of attending a worship gathering, work, school, teaching, community involvement, etc. A person can spread themselves too thin, and the Bible wants us to do all things in moderation, including managing our time and where our efforts are placed.

Re: Revival!

I did not care for school either when I was in it, and it was not always easy, but I can say it was worth every minute. By the way, I do not equate church services with God, but I love to gather with His people and give Him the praise and glory for all that He has done for me. I love to hear the Word go forth and watch people come into the church. I know that not many get my passionl, but it is what I love.
