The theme of Peter's message was to introduce Jesus as the Messiah. Peter took the opportunity to remind the audiencr they were responsible for the crucifixion. The same people a few weeks earlier were yelling crucify him and let his blood be on our hands. It is possible the crowd realized the impact of the judgement they pronounced on themselves and wanted a way to reverse the curse they put on themselves and future generations.

Therefore, they were guilty of the sin of murder and needed forgiveness. I was also so guilty of the sin of murder, per the Bible, because of hatred I held towards others. My sins put Jesus on the cross. Why would Peter give me a different solution to my dilemma than he gave to those in Acts 2? Salvation by grace is the only the thing that can "break the curse" you spoke of. If Peter was offering them anything other than salvation by grace with his command in Acts 2:38, then he was teaching works based salvation and the curse was not lifted from those Jews.

Good points. The audience was guilty of murdering the Messiah. One can't reasonably explain why Paul's response to the jailer's question was different.

If I understand Acts 2:41 correctly, baptism was benchmark used to count how many people were added to the church. Those who believed were baptized The people who were baptzed and counted as believers.
