Wouldn't stay in now, huh? I still use one in my hair if I am cooking and want to put my hair up. My hair is so fine and slippery, it won't stay up and will keep sliding out of a knot if I just tie it up.

Back in the eighties, we used to have a sister that did that, if we went out to eat after service & were in the waiting area , waiting to be seated, we use to see if we could deftly remove them.
I usually got into trouble for that.

Anyone remember the poof? I use to dislike them & when we would go to eat, one sister, who ended up marrying a good friend of mine, use to say, "look Ron, a poof!"

I was just getting into church at the time of the "poof", startling faux pas.

They would. I've actually used a pencil at work a few times just to get my hair off my neck.

I hated those. And we would call them cow patties too.

But, but, I, I, thought you were much OLDER than me?

Yes, I've used a pencil. It's so aggravating when I am trying to do something and I can feel my hair slowly sliding out of the knot. Arghhhhh! I found some awesome hair products for body by Kevin Murphy - sulfate and paraben free. Lovely smell.
