Because the bullet didn't go all the way through it had to have been a jacketed hollow point. When they go in, they go in the size of the hole, the flesh would close up the wound. But, there are lots of variables. That's just one. A full metal jacket would have gone all the way through, unless it hit a rib.

In addition, the heart is centrally located behind bone and muscle and other tissues. However, the chest cavity has lots of room for fluid.

Yes, lots of room and from the autopsy, his chest cavity, for both lungs, was filled with blood - 2 liters. That's a lot of blood.

I was reading the initial autopsy again, and seeing that they found "three fragments of projectile", indicates a rib had been hit or the bullet wouldn't have fragmented. Looks like GZ hit him on the left side at an angle.

Handgun wounds to the heart don't typically have a 'spray'. The blood will fill the chest cavity instead, then leak out.
