Re: I'm leaving my church. Please pray.

The thing that strikes me as strange (this is not an indictment of the original poster) is that the pastor thought enough of you to support your move to Mexico, but when you return, he is cold? There's no doubt things you're not sharing, and aren't required to, but do you think there's something you're not considering when thinking through this matter? Was there something between you that might have caused offense?

Either way, the whole situation seems toxic...I'm not sure the answer to my questions above would change my desire to leave.

We actually had not yet "moved" to Mexico. It was well understood we'd only be there for the Summer and would be returning. Our actual "move" is to come later as we seek which avenue now to take since the UPC no longer sends missionaries there. He well understood this. There was absolutely no misunderstanding on this issue. There is absolutely nothing that I'm withholding here. I have wracked my brain trying to think of what could have caused offense. If there is, should he not care enough to confront me privately? From his message Wednesday night, he clearly holds to the belief that financial struggles stem from a lack of giving, period. He left no room for any consideration that faithful tithe payers also experience financial troubles.

"We did not wear uniforms. The lady workers dressed in the current fashions of the day, ...silks...satins...jewels or whatever they happened to possess. They were very smartly turned out, so that they made an impressive appearance on the streets where a large part of our work was conducted in the early years.

"It was not until long after, when former Holiness preachers had become part of us, that strict plainness of dress began to be taught.

"Although Entire Sanctification was preached at the beginning of the Movement, it was from a Wesleyan viewpoint, and had in it very little of the later Holiness Movement characteristics. Nothing was ever said about apparel, for everyone was so taken up with the Lord that mode of dress seemingly never occurred to any of us."

Yes. Mexico is a tough place for MLM's though because it a very "backstabbing" culture. I hate to say it, but it is true. Trying to steal someone's downline is common in the MLM's down there. Though it did happen to me here, backstabbing in general permeates Mexican culture. On the one hand, they act all unified on things like immigration. But within their own community they cut each others throats without blinking.

I just had a thought. Maybe it's HIS financial struggles he is referring to and that's due to YOUR lack of giving

Give him more. Give him MORE!

  1. There is One God. This one God reveals Himself distinctly as Father, Son and Holy Ghost.
  2. The Son is God himself in a human form or "God manifested in the flesh" (1Tim 3:16)
  3. Every sinner must repent of their sins.
  4. That Jesus name baptism is the only biblical mode of water baptism.
  5. That the Holy Ghost is for today and is received by faith with the initial evidence of speaking in tongues.
  6. The saint will go on to strive to live a holy life, pleasing to God.

Gosh, Prax, that's what I read into this right from the beginning. Not from Originalist. From what I read from what his pastor was preaching. I have heard it said and found it to be true - a whole lot of time whatever the pastor is preaching, he is preaching MOSTLY to himself.

That's exactly what I've been thinking. Classic case of projection.
