Re: End Time Army of Women Preachers Psalms 68:11
Just a moment before hitting the road.
No, prophesy is NOT an exposition from Scripture & NOT ONE SINGLE BIBLE EXAMPLE will ever be produced stating so. And, as usual, pages & pages of copy-paste from computers (read carefully here) THAT HAVE BEEN REFUTED BEFORE OVER & OVER. Yet, absolutely no one can deal with the crystal clear written word if God - only more stubborn denial of the text.
Of course women can prophesy in church (Ummm, for the 5th time now?) - BUT PROPHECY IS NOT A SERMON FEOM THE SCRIPTURES. Goodness, can you people not read? Liddell & Scott fail to demonstrate from the Scriptures what they speculate. As Dr. Thayer defines prophesy as to "spontaneously break forth" - guess y'all will just ignore that too .
Still waiting in that biblical example of a woman "preaching-teaching" to a congregation:_______________? Cannot produce what does not exist !
Gotta' run - repent of your defiance to Scripture (of course this is AFF - so I'll not hold my breath). The explanations for I Tim. 2 (Ummm, that is, the only "one" I received out of pages & pages of writing ) was shown to be completely wrong on an exegetical plane by one of the leading grammarians of our day! No response at all - just more typical venom from the AFF crew !
On the road - go read your Bible's & obey it - you will stand before God someday with all if your unbiblical excuses & justifications .

Yea, KeptByMyTradition has reallllyyyyy been such the lil' angel in her responses 'eh ? What you demand from me you do not practice. Want respect? Learn to give it - otherwise we'll roll any way you wish - y'all are being disingenuous with the Bible & will have to give an account for it. Ever heard of the phrase "willful ignorance" ?
Ok - finally on the road now - check back in when I can (maybe) !

Still didn't answer how a woman can prophesy, AND keep silent. Because you don't have an answer.
I agree with you that prophesy is something that is not expounding ON scripture. Prophesy is a WORD from God, given to men, through either men, or women.
However, the very act of prophesying, is disobeying your interpretation of Paul's admonition for a woman to keep silent.
Therefore, this you cannot explain, no matter how you mock me, and change my screen name, and use emoticons.

Re: End Time Army of Women Preachers Psalms 68:11
So a woman can prophecy but cannot give a sermon...well that is the most inconsistent thing I have ever heard of in my life...A sermon is supposed to be something God's gives and prophecy is something God gives...both are spoken in the church...I can teach men a song but cannot teach a scripture that tells them how to be saved? Many of our songs are scriptures and chapters of the Bible...
I can tell a man how to be saved under a shade tree but cannot tell him how to be saved behind a pulpit...I can go to the leper colony and sit beside the footless and handless and tell them the story of Jesus but if I decide to roll them into a room and talk to them all at one time I cannot do it....lol...

Re: End Time Army of Women Preachers Psalms 68:11
"Prophecy" has at least verbal two connotations in the Bible - fore-telling and forth-telling. Merriam-Webster defines the verb thusly:
V| to utter by or as if by divine inspiration; to predict with assurance or on the basis of mystic knowledge; to give instruction in religious matters {preach}
Foretelling
Foretelling is saying what the future will be or hold before it happens. This is the sense in which most people I know think of "prophecy" - the OT predictions of the Messiah, Jesus' warnings against Jerusalem, John's Revelation, Daniel's interpretation of the king's dream of the statue, etc.
Forthtelling
Forthtelling is proclaiming truth (or news). It is likely that Baalam was hired to do this second kind of prophesying by Balak (king of the Moabites).

Re: End Time Army of Women Preachers Psalms 68:11
Let's talk about the 5-fold ministry then...
Ephesians 4:11-12 "And he gave some apostles, and some prophets, and some evangelists; and some pastors, and teachers; for the perfecting of the saints, for the work of the ministry, for the edifying of the body of Christ."
Two things to note about this passage:
1. "Preachers" are not listed as part of the 5-fold ministry
2. Neither are "missionaries" listed as part of the 5-fold ministry.
However, one more thing to note about this passage is the word evangelist: Who is an evangelist? Who can be an evangelist? No teaching on this particular ministry is given by Paul.
As defined by Webster:
e·van·ge·list
iˈvanjəlist/Submit
noun
noun: evangelist; plural noun: evangelists
1. a person who seeks to convert others to the Christian faith, esp. by public preaching.
synonyms: preacher, missionary, gospeler, proselytizer, crusader; More
a layperson engaged in Christian missionary work.
a zealous advocate of something.
"he is an evangelist of junk bonds"
2. the writer of one of the four Gospels (Matthew, Mark, Luke, or John).
"St. John the Evangelist"
I would submit to you to the readers of this post, that an evangelist would fall into the category of what we call missionary work today, which is the 1st definition above, "a person who seeks to convert others to the Christian faith, esp. by public preaching."
Jesus said in Luke 24:47-49 "And that repentance and remission of sins should be preached in his name among all nations, beginning at Jerusalem. And ye are witnesses of these things. And behold, I send the promise of my Father upon you: but tarry ye in the city of Jerusalem until ye be endued with power from on high."
Women have received the power from on high, as have men, and are well able, and equipped to preach the gospel as an evangelist, whether it be from a platform, or under a tree, in a leper colony, or in a stadium. If they are preaching the gospel, and not trying to usurp the authority of men, they are obeying the great commission of Jesus to all believers.
Conclusion: Anyone who preaches the gospel is evangelizing, and an evangelist is found in the 5-fold ministry. Therefore, a woman can do the work of an evangelist, which is preaching the gospel of Jesus, as can ANYONE who has received power from on high.

LOL - Why am I not surprised ?
Also, you're meshing contexts (ever heard of that?) of general prayer & prophecy in Chp. 11 (which, for the 10th time now is not a sermon from the Scriptures - either biblically, textually, lexically, or exegetically) & the subject-matter of the gifts of the Spirit introduced in Chpp. 12-14.
It is precisely this type of interpretation-methodology which expressly leads to false doctrines such as "women-preachers" (& it IS a false doctrine in the church). Thus, I Cor. 11 means what it says in its context & I Cor. 14 means what it says in its context - Here, let's try this A-G-A-I-N:
New International Version
Women should remain silent in the churches. They are not allowed to speak, but must be in submission, as the law says.
New Living Translation
Women should be silent during the church meetings. It is not proper for them to speak. They should be submissive, just as the law says.
English Standard Version
the women should keep silent in the churches. For they are not permitted to speak, but should be in submission, as the Law also says.
New American Standard Bible
The women are to keep silent in the churches; for they are not permitted to speak, but are to subject themselves, just as the Law also says.
King James Bible
Let your women keep silence in the churches: for it is not permitted unto them to speak; but they are commanded to be under obedience, as also saith the law.
Holman Christian Standard Bible
the women should be silent in the churches, for they are not permitted to speak, but should be submissive, as the law also says.
International Standard Version
the women must keep silent in the churches. They are not allowed to speak out, but must place themselves in submission, as the oral law also says.
NET Bible
the women should be silent in the churches, for they are not permitted to speak. Rather, let them be in submission, as in fact the law says.
Aramaic Bible in Plain English
Let your women be silent in the assemblies, for they are not allowed to speak, but to be in subjection, just as The Written Law also says.
GOD'S WORD® Translation
the women must keep silent. They don't have the right to speak. They must take their place as Moses' Teachings say.
Jubilee Bible 2000
Let your women keep silence in the congregations {Gr. ekklesia called out ones}, for it is not permitted unto them to speak; but they are commanded to be in subjection, as also saith the law.
King James 2000 Bible
Let your women keep silence in the churches: for it is not permitted unto them to speak; but they are commanded to be submissive, as also says the law.
American King James Version
Let your women keep silence in the churches: for it is not permitted to them to speak; but they are commanded to be under obedience as also said the law.
American Standard Version
let the women keep silence in the churches: for it is not permitted unto them to speak; but let them be in subjection, as also saith the law.
Douay-Rheims Bible
Let women keep silence in the churches: for it is not permitted them to speak, but to be subject, as also the law saith.
Darby Bible Translation
Let your women be silent in the assemblies, for it is not permitted to them to speak; but to be in subjection, as the law also says.
English Revised Version
Let the women keep silence in the churches: for it is not permitted unto them to speak; but let them be in subjection, as also saith the law.
Webster's Bible Translation
Let your women keep silence in the churches; for it is not permitted to them to speak: but they are commanded to be under obedience, as also saith the law.
Yea', really looks like God calls women to "preach" to the churches .
I agree with you that prophesy is something that is not expounding ON scripture. Prophesy is a WORD from God, given to men, through either men, or women.
Ummm, okay, and? What do you think this proves? I have stated over & again that witnessing, outreach, home Bible studies, & biblical prophecy is a form of "preaching," but not in the sense of a didactic sermon from the Scriptures to a church congregation.
11 Let a woman learn in silence with all submission. 12 And I do not permit a woman to teach or to have authority over a man, but to be in silence. 13 For Adam was formed first, then Eve. 14 And Adam was not deceived, but the woman being deceived, fell into transgression....3.14 I hope to come to you soon, but I am writing these things to you so that, 15 if I delay, you may know how one ought to behave in the household of God, which is the church of the living God, a pillar and buttress of the truth.
What portion of this do y'all not comprehend ?
However, the very act of prophesying, is disobeying your interpretation of Paul's admonition for a woman to keep silent.
Ahhh, now I see clearly since you've thoroughly "exegeted" & "explained" the passages above ! As usual, you're merely offering more smoke in mirrors & not at all clarifying the issue.
Instead of offering a "integrated-hermeneutic" you're offering a "segregated-hermeneutic" (do you even know what that means?). That is, you merely say, "Well, if it means silent (when the Bible explicitly says it does??), then how can women prophesy??" This only serves to cloud & not clarify - all because you have a preference & anti-biblical tradition. Very poor "scholastics."
Therefore, this you cannot explain, no matter how you mock me, and change my screen name, and use emoticons.
|
LOL - I have offered in-depth syntax, exegesis, lexical quotes, & most importantly, BIBLE - Y'all are merely offering your copy-paste commentaries that agree with you, but disagree with the Bible .
BTW, though I do not have time to expound in-depth right now (just fitting this in when I am able), Paul was laying down a life-style principle in the following principle (ever heard of the micro-context & macro-context hermeneutic?):
"Now we command you, brethren, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that ye withdraw yourselves from every brother that walketh disorderly, and not after the tradition which he received of us."
The Greek verb translated "walketh" (περιπατοῦντος) defines as "how one lives their life" (http://biblehub.com/greek/4043.htm) & is not isolated to just the work-life (or lack there-of). No, I will not fellowship "women-preachers" & the Bible "commands" me not to - Sorry, try again !
Check in later tonight if able - if not, maybe tomorrow !
