If the "technicalities" of baptism aren't important, then why did the disciples that were baptized unto John's baptism in Acts 19 have to be rebaptized?

1And it came to pass, that, while Apollos was at Corinth, Paul having passed through the upper coasts came to Ephesus: and finding certain disciples, 2He said unto them, Have ye received the Holy Ghost since ye believed? And they said unto him, We have not so much as heard whether there be any Holy Ghost. 3And he said unto them, Unto what then were ye baptized? And they said, Unto John's baptism. 4Then said Paul, John verily baptized with the baptism of repentance, saying unto the people, that they should believe on him which should come after him, that is, on Christ Jesus. 5When they heard this, they were baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus. 6And when Paul had laid his hands upon them, the Holy Ghost came on them; and they spake with tongues, and prophesied.

Apparently because they weren't followers of Jesus before then. But the Jesus name baptism promoters, meaning those who demand a 3rd party pronounces the name of Jesus over a candidate, demand rebaptism of those who are already Jesus followers.

The scripture says they were already followers. It says they were "certain disciples" and Paul asked them if they had received the Holy Ghost "since they believed". They believed on Jesus as preached by John. When Paul questioned their baptism and they said unto John's baptism, after Paul explained, they were then re-baptized in the name of Jesus.

This is clearly an important "technicality" or there would be no need for them to be "re-baptized".

Yes, they were rebaptized because they had been followers of John. They were baptized unto a whole other person! Totally different than rebaptizing followers of Jesus because the baptizer didn't say the name over the candidate!

We will have to agree to disagree on this.

I believe the scripture clearly emphasizes the importance of the NAME, not titles. Its not a "technicality".

As for exactly how the "name" is spoken and who does the speaking, I don't believe thats cut in stone. I defnitely don't believe a preacher has to be the one to do it. However, I do believe the scripture teaches the importance of the name rather than descriptive titles that basically represent nothing.

Well, if we agree that how it's spoken and who does the speaking isn't cut in stone, then we seem to agree more than you may think!
