Is it silly? What if your wife decided that she wasn't going to shave her pits or legs? In Europe, this is acceptable for a woman, but the North American culture it isn't. Same way with church culture, we expect women to do certain things, why would it be silly to expect men to?
It is silly when they give you reasons that are not reasonable. Especially when Jesus wore a beard. I consider things silly when they are not found in the Bible and reasoned by thoughts that are unreasonable, such as it relates a person to the 60's hippy movement. My opinion, anyway.
What we are expected to do is often unreasonable in light of scripture. So whether someone expects it or not, what is the Lord's will? And the idea that it is God's will if the pastor says it is, despite lack of scripture, then I kindly disagree.

Elder Blume you cannot prove Jesus wore a beard. I am not saying he did not but you cannot prove he did. One day without shaving you could pluck the hairs off my face and I do not wear a beard. So you are building on an assumption you can never prove.

He did drink wine we have the record there is NO record he wore a beard. He probably did but you cannot prove it by scripture if so chapter and verse????

He lived the life of a 1st Century Jew... he wore a beard.

You cannot pluck the hairs of your face out unless you have a beard. Do you think they used tweazers when Jesus carried His cross to pluck out the hairs of his face? lol
"Oh, Jesus. Please, sir, if you will. Stand still, and let me take my tweazers and pluck out each little piece of stubble from your face, for I disagree with you."
They grabbed handfuls of hair, bro.
Early church writings mock the idea of a beardless man.

But you can't use culture, Bro Blume, to prove it. YOU MUST use chapter and verse, or it's not proveable. If it's not in the bible, it didn't happen.
History and culture has no bearing on it... only because it would fly in the face of their messed up ideology.
