Sean, have you ate Jesus' literal flesh and drank Jesus' literal blood?
Maybe God turns your communion wine and bread into the actual blood of Jesus?

These items were used as a direct COMPARISON, not a metaphor.
A metaphor is open-ended in interpretation. How do you think the words, "heaven and earth", ended up being called the "temple and Jews"?
That's right....the use of metaphors.

A comparison to what Sean?
Joh 6:50 This is the bread which cometh down from heaven, that a man may eat thereof, and not die.
Joh 6:51 I am the living bread which came down from heaven: if any man eat of this bread, he shall live for ever: and the bread that I will give is my flesh, which I will give for the life of the world.
Joh 6:52 The Jews therefore strove among themselves, saying, How can this man give us his flesh to eat?
Joh 6:53 Then Jesus said unto them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Except ye eat the flesh of the Son of man, and drink his blood, ye have no life in you.
Joh 6:54 Whoso eateth my flesh, and drinketh my blood, hath eternal life; and I will raise him up at the last day.
Joh 6:55 For my flesh is meat indeed, and my blood is drink indeed.
Joh 6:56 He that eateth my flesh, and drinketh my blood, dwelleth in me, and I in him.
Joh 6:57 As the living Father hath sent me, and I live by the Father: so he that eateth me, even he shall live by me.
Joh 6:58 This is that bread which came down from heaven: not as your fathers did eat manna, and are dead: he that eateth of this bread shall live for ever.

Mot metaphors(saying something else), but simple comparisons.

Answer the question Sean, what is this passage a comparison to? And how do you come to what ever conclusion within that verse?

The bread is compared directly to Jesus.
Jesus is our "spiritual" bread.(real spirit food)
Jesus did not lie to us in this verse.
Jesus was soon transformed into Spirit form after this passage.
We spiritually exist and spiritually eat, in His eyes, when we receive and are renewed in the Spirit of Jesus.
Jesus is in our "bellies" Loren. We feed from His Spirit.
These words are spiritual, so don't look at it through carnal eyes.
You seem as lost as Nicodemus was with this passage, Loren.

Oh great. Now I see a big looong discussion on the meaning of what a "comparison" is or is not compared to a metaphor. Such dicing of words to fit ones views is why one struggles with the intent of the scriptures.
I see trintarians and JW's do this all the time.

Interesting. Can you explain the difference between a direct comparison and an indirect comparison? Maybe provide an example or two of each?

A direct comparison can be a stop sign.....if you dont heed it you directly crash.
An indirect comparison is a metaphor. It leaves the interpretation up to the one reading it. It always ends up in confusion.
