It's disingenuous to have a primary to choose delegates only to award the delegates to another candidate the state party prefers. Sure, they can do it. But you can expect the people to push back. But, until the people change the party rules, they need not complain. It's the same with the States. Why haven't the States invoked Article 5 yet?

It is the same thing - both processes have RULES. All the campaigns KNEW the rules. Donald is pretending that he and his supporters are being disenfranchised because he is losing. He is pretending he doesn't know the rules, but he does. Most of the people working for him are Democrats. His own children can't follow the rules by registering as Republicans. They don't want to, because none of them are Republicans.

That is what is not being taught anymore, which is why all the hub-bub over how the delegates vote by comparing them to how the public may have voted. the public merely votes at a "polling" station. It is merely a "POLL." Polls have no weight or binding obligations. We think and have been taught we are a "democracy" but we are in fact a Democratic Republic which is designed to prevent a pure democracy which in fact, mob rule.
A democratic republic and the electoral college is designed to protect us from the whims of the majority at the expense of the republic.
And remember, we are "The United STATES" not the United People. This is a nation comprised of the several STATES and the State electors do the actual voting which is influenced by the "POLL" taken from it's citizens.

Correct me if I am wrong, but cant the delegates just cast their vote however they want regardless of the "POLL"?

And BOTH parties promote the "your vote counts" myth.
The peoples vote OUGHT to count in a party primary, however.

It's very simple. The pledged delegates from the primary process will vote for the candidates they were assigned on the first ballot and if there is a majority that candidate will be the nominee. If there is a non-majority then those that are not bound by law can and do vote for another candidate.

You are correct, as it is just a poll, an opinion count, that's all.
The delegates will usually vote the will of the populous, but are under no obligation to do so. It is designed as a "check and balance" to the Republic.

Party rules are designed by parties, and have nothing to do with "checks and balances" - except maybe to ensure party big wigs maintain control of the party.
The Electoral College vs "general election" is something else, that IS designed as way for States to have some control over who becomes Pres and Vice Pres.

As for NPV, the Electoral College idea works fine when the populace isn't a bunch of brain dead uneducated lemming heathens.
In fact, a lot of things work fine when the populace isn't a bunch of brain dead uneducated lemmings, and when they ARE, well... pretty much NOTHING works like it ought to.
(Yes I ended that with a preposition, because grammatical Nazism is something up with which we should not put. lol)

I know many of you were taught that you shouldn’t end a sentence with a preposition, but it’s a myth.
