Will you recommend that your son serve?

Please explain why or why not.
Sorry. i didnt see this until the bump.

Yes I was in the Navy from 1987 to 1992. I was also in Desert Storm.

my experience is that the military is the hardest place to live for God that one can put themsleves in.

It isnt that it cannot be done. simply that the environment is so very difficult for a christian.

you are in an environment led by men who in general have no real faith and who foster a society of young men being trained to kill people and break things.

You spend your time with rough and ready guys who have few boundries.

I love American and am very much a patriot. I am proud of my service and have recomended young men with very little direction or future to go into the military. I have also cautioned others with good direction and strong families to not go into the military.

Officer direction is different. a young man with good family and a clear future would do well to get into an ROTC program and become an officer. Officers are shielded from a lot of the harshness of enlisted life and have a code of ethics that is higher than that of the enlisted.

Thanks, Ferd.

This is in line with what I have heard from others, and what I figured you would say.

I cringed when I read Revrandy's post where he has encouraged his sons to serve in the military.

I grew up loving sports. I idolized the Chicago Cubs! Since we had no TV, I would listen to every play on my radio.

I'll never forget the one day that my uncle invited me to go to Wrigley Field with him to see the Cubs play the Cardinals. It was a dream come true - I would see the Cubs play with my own eyes!

At the game the Cubs shortstop, Paul Popovich, hit a grand slam home run and the Cubs won!! That was one of the greatest days of my childhood life!

I would love to see another game when I'm ever in the Chicago area.

Now I have season tickets to the Titans, and really enjoy seeing them play. It's the one thing outside of church and work that I enjoy doing the most! In fact, I give up my golfing to go see the Titans!
