Can I ask a question and I know both television and internet have had negative affects on society ?
But techinally speaking what is the difference between a web-cast and television broadcast ?

The TV broadcast is programmed on a medium that is regulated by the FCC...
The internet broadcast is progammed on a medium that is regulated by NO ONE!
Other than that...same cameras, same editing software, same process of delivery, same ....everything....else...

T1,
When Michael Powell worked at the FCC he told me, via e-mail, that satellite t.v. is not regulated by the FCC.
It's only the local stations you can get. Just adding that for anyone that isn't aware.

Howard Stern was not on "local stations" and the FCC thumped him...
This has happened many tmes on the basic cable channels (NOT PREMIUM or PPV) so how can the FCC levy fines against them if they are not regulated?
I think what qualifies as local is more than the big 4...

PO,
Don't know where MP got his info, or maybe that was before the advancement of technology, but according to the FCC's website this is what they say:
About the FCC
The Federal Communications Commission (FCC) is an independent United States government agency, directly responsible to Congress. The FCC was established by the Communications Act of 1934 and is charged with regulating interstate and international communications by radio, television, wire, satellite and cable. The FCC's jurisdiction covers the 50 states, the District of Columbia, and U.S. possessions.
But the FCC does not regulate the internet that I know of..

As it stands, the FCC will regulate a wireless router, but not the internet itself, from what i can determine on their sites. While all satelite, tv, cable, etc is regualted by them.
A remote control car is regulated by them, but not the internet...
The FCC doesn't even litigate child porn on the internet...it is something like the child endangerment act and regulated by local, state, and federal LAW enforcement...not the FCC.
This is one reason I don't understand the "have internet, broadcast internet, but TV is too bad a place to use" arguement....it is laughable! The internet is by far worse than TV ever could be, because TV is regulated and the internet is not...at this time.

I do know also that the regulations by the FCC are different for each medum they are over. For instance, Howard Stern has more leaway on Satelite radio than he does on TV...
Also premium channels like HBO can air nudity but the channels (not just big 4) that are on basic cable have to blur any nudity...Stern was on "E" and the FCC would not allow unblurred nudity...
But there is NO limit on the internet that I know of execpt the child stuff...which is regulated by law enforcement.
