Ok, what do you think is the #1 issue in the UPCI?

This should be a thread of it's own.

The UPCI should rethink it's relationship with non OP Christians, both in offical statement and practice.

Articles on such subjects as "The New Birth," will be accepted, whether they teach that the new birth takes place before baptism in water and Spirit, or that the new birth consists of baptism of water and Spirit. - THE PENTECOSTAL HERALD Dec. 1945

I don't think it requires an official statement...no non OP org has rethought it's relationship with us and issued an official statement that I know of...other than the AOG saying we are still heretics...

In practice....you can't legislate that kind of stuff. Some UPCers treat them one way and some another.

Apostolic is defined on AFF as:

  1. There is One God. This one God reveals Himself distinctly as Father, Son and Holy Ghost.
  2. The Son is God himself in a human form or "God manifested in the flesh" (1Tim 3:16)
  3. Every sinner must repent of their sins.
  4. That Jesus name baptism is the only biblical mode of water baptism.
  5. That the Holy Ghost is for today and is received by faith with the initial evidence of speaking in tongues.
  6. The saint will go on to strive to live a holy life, pleasing to God.

Bro, I love ya, but I wouldn't touch that one with a ten foot pole.

My safest answer is that we live in an archaic feudal system mentality. We build our own little kingdoms and war against each other as if we are playing Risk.

By we I mean me as well. I am definitely a product of my environment and upbringing. The way I feel disturbs me to my core.

I love playing Risk. My nephew beat both my son and I last weekend. I made bolds attacks that ended me having any kingdom at all........

I think building personal kingdoms could be a problem, but I think it more of a problem of fruit production. If Jesus is the root Love will be the fruit.

I admire your candor, even when you're "playing it safe."

And I also agree with Brother Hoover's statement above. We need to start looking at things from a bigger perspective. We are far too fearful and tend to pull our heads in like turtles whenever the vast scale of our mission looms over us. How about thinking along the lines of, "What would it take to see an entire denomination begin baptizing in Jesus name?" And then acting toward that goal.

Of course to change them so dramatically would require that we make some important changes as well.

What about each one win one or more..........Maybe we should stress that Spiritual reproduction is to the Church as Motherhood is to mankind. Oh that we'd be like Hannah and beg and plead for offspring. I fear we've let the worlds view of birth control enter the Spiritual realm of the Church. We want the pleasure but not the responsibility.

I don't think anyone resists this plan. We are talking in addition to, and certainly not in lieu of personal impact.

I would love to see......say.....the Southern Baptist come to a true new birth experience as a denomination....it is certainly in the realm of possibility with God....but it would happen much faster if every Pentecostal made it a point to try and truly disciple a Southern Baptist.......or which every Organization you choose from the RCC to the Elks Club......
