Did you see that one of the last jurisdictions to grant women equal voting rights was Liechtenstein in 1984.
And that there are still some countries that deny/condition it?
Women's suffrage denied or conditioned
Bhutan — One vote per house. Although this applies to both men and women, in practice it currently prevents many more women from voting than men. If the new proposed constitution is voted and ratified, then no restrictions will apply by 2008.
Lebanon — Partial suffrage. Proof of elementary education is required for women but not for men. Voting is compulsory for men but optional for women.
Brunei — No suffrage for women. Neither men nor women have had the right to vote or to stand for election since 1962 because the country is governed by an absolute monarchy.
Saudi Arabia — No suffrage for women. The first local elections ever held in the country occurred in 2005. Women were not given the right to vote or to stand for election.
United Arab Emirates — Limited, but will be fully expanded by 2010.
Vatican City — No suffrage for women; while most men in the Vatican also lack the vote, all persons with suffrage in Papal conclaves (the Cardinals) are male.

Excellent information. The church is not immune from society as we all know. Society has a tendency to bleed through to the church. I live in a part of the country where the black communities have their churches and the white have theirs. My church is one of the few multi-cultural churches in our area.
Anyway, back to religion and the church. The religious zealouts of the past and our time have always targeted women. This is going to be a controversial statement, but generally speaking a women is persecuted by a man. I know there are exceptions to the rule; grown kids, lesbians, etc. But for the most part her abuse or persecution comes through the male dominance in her life.
The countries which you mentioned, many do not have women participating in govt. Socially women have been an outcast and considered sub-standard.
Even in the U.S., over the last century certain jobs were not given to women except through necessity. Women were not allowed in male dominated universities and could not even be considered to practice medicine without the supervision of men.
Spiritually speaking those countries that persecute women are very dark. Satan rules. Paganism, idolatry, religious zealouts, etc. have all persecuted women. Even in pagan Rome with regard to the worship of the sex goddesses, that was a form of persecution. Women were seen as objects of desire by men and could be bought and sold accordingly.
Jesus came to liberate women too. "He that the son sets free is free indeed." The gospel message isn't about dominance, persecution, or substandard humanity, its about abundant life in Christ. God's kingdom does not discriminate or persecute women. In the church, out of the church, mormonism, islamism, buddihism, whatever, my point is this, God's kingdom does not persecute or destroy women!
The kingdom of God is righteousness, peace and joy in the Holy Ghost!!!
