Some of us can afford an ice cream cone....maybe two! My personal take on this comment was that too many Apostolic men and women didn't pursue a higher education and they were stuck in a box of ignorance and poverty.

So you are saying that Paula White and Juanita Bynum are from the hallowed ivory halls?

I am a firm believer in the Old Paths

My reference was directed to the comment that most one God Apostolic men and women couldn't afford an ice cream cone. I saw this as an epidemic that has plagued our movement for too long. Too much emphasis has been given to the world to come and not to the world at hand.

Too true. Sadly. And, a good education will benefit you in both this life and the life to come.

I cannot argue with that.

There's plenty in the Bible about rejecting the world's riches. Let's not forget that while you are busy telling us that not enough emphasis is placed on this world. Many apostolics are too busy chasing after God to be chasing after money and careers. They should be commended instead of being reprimanded.

I'm sorry Rico but I'll have to disagree with you here. Many generations of Apostolics have been caught in the poverty cycle, living off the government, refusing good paying jobs, so worried about the rapture that they have neglected to educate themselves or their children. Having enough, taking care of the basic needs of the family [food, clothing & shelter] is something that even Christ promoted when he called men of God and ministry to take care of their families. He thought so much of this that he said those that don't are worse than thieves and infidels.

There is a scripture that for years I didn't understand then meaning but I understand now through watching it happen: The love of money is the root of all evil. This statement really isn't about the rich. It is about the poor that want others to think they are rich. They live beyond their means, dress beyond their means, spend every dime on things that do not satisfy and have a sense of entitlement. The world, relatives, friends owe them something and they hoard up every ill-gotten gain, and poor-mouth until their needs get met by others. They make bills they have no intention of paying, and suck everyone dry around them.

When the Bible talks about the poor being with us always it is talking about multi-generations of families who live out the lifestyles they have been taught to live; not valuing education, having no work ethics, living for the future world by neglecting their responsibilites to their lives and families in this world. Living like vagabonds and having haughty spirits thinking they are so much better than others because they give every dime to the church, and every waking hour to doing church work, to the neglect of relaionships, and responsibility for their families, and even to themselves.

I have seen this played out time and again. And then to brag on this forum that we are not like Paula and Randy White who have everything and get caught up in things...lust of the flesh, lust of the eyes, and pride of life. We fool ourselves don't we?

Something to chew on, and think about.

Rhoni
