It could also be pointed out that many UC churches have heavyhanded leadership, and as a result, those who do disagree with what is taught would never DARE to say so, except in a very private setting.

Sadly that is my experience as well. I know people who have actually quit their jobs, sought employment out of state, uprooted their families and moved out of state for 2 years- and then moved back in state, resettled their kids, found new jobs and bought a different house just to get away from a UC church without breaking any of the "rules."
Several families that I know have followed that path to find a pastor that they didn't have to go to for permission and "counsel" on their vacations plans and when and which family members they could visit.
