To call the elders lairs is a very serious offence. I thank God for my good elders.
IN Bible College I was told that because of my "trendy haircut" I wasn't able to continue singing in the ensemble nor would I be allowed to be in the picture for the cover of some PPH publication. Was my hair long? NO. Was my hair even on my color? NO. Ears? No. It was called a wait line. It was actually cut really short up to a point and then a normal length. Nothing fancy or even out of control.

But some koo koo authority figure thought it was just the sin of all sins. When I confronted her to question, as she couldn't even tell me to my face and sent my girlfriend, she immediately began to rebuke me.

Whats really funny about the whole story is that just so happened that same week we had a guest spkr. that had some book on old time pentecost and as my friends and I began to go thru the book we began to notice many of the ministers pictured in the old black and white photos had the same exact haircut. UNREAL!!!!

I will not pass these silly standards to my child! I was lied to. Either that or like in a lot of cases we are taught tradition and not Bible! And that is sad.

You sir are rebellious.

You needed to humble yourself and obey the rules of the bible college. I attended TBC and I can tell you that I didn't particle like or agree with all the rule but I obeyed them.

Obedience is better that sacrifice.

I'm not for sure what TBS is. Here its channel 38.

Why would I be rebellious? I'm confused. There was no pryor knowledge that this haircut was wrong. It was not in any handbook. IN fact its the haircut I had had for quite some time. I didn't have a choice but to obey silly. I didn't sing in the ensemble nor appear in the picture.

My whole point is that a rule that was enforced was made up in somebodies mind with outn researching the facts. The facts are that the same hairstyle was on the founding fathers. But even after finding this out I didn't go to her with the information. And after discovering that nobody had the back bone to address the situation with truth I took my licks, dropped her class, finished the year and went home.

Rebellious

Also your extra-biblical "standards" are silly. But as usual, enforced with the R-word. I could see them working though when taught from a loving standpoint but saying "Do what I say or die" will never birth success.

Kutless does bring up a problem that is very prevalent among OPs' and in particular at the Bible Colleges.

Whole Hearted you say he didn't "follow the rules..." Was there really a rule that stated he could not have a hair cut in the fashion of WT Witherspoon? I doubt that. In stead someone who either had authority or had simply assumed authority went to Kutless's "girlfriend" and told her to tell Kutless that the "Witherspoon" look is now out and he could not participate in the ensemble thing.

Most of the "rules" that are brought up in these scenarios are not written down but represent someone's knee jerk reaction. It's very unfair to expect eveyone to somehow anticipate whatever new rule might be invented on the fly. The only way to really get a group of people to automatically clone themselves to your whimisical standards is to inculcate an atmosphere of intimidation, bullying and fear.

Kutless's experience reminds me of my Bible School experience. The only "rules" I ever had a problem with were the often contradictory ones that were introduced anew every couple of weeks. One guy goes out and gets a dressy leather jacket- oops, there's now a rule against wearing leather jackets of any kind on campus. A couple of guys get skinny ties like Stanley Chambers wore in the 50's - oops, no skinny ties. The list goes on.

There's something terribly wrong with an environment where you have to guess what is going to offend some pea brain. To resist that culture is NOT rebellion! It's really a form of true holiness. A very practical application of holiness and a demonstration of godliness on the part of the guys with the skinny ties or the "Witherspoon" haitcuts. It's the innovators- those who feel their whimsical "rules" need to be enforced who are in rebellion against God and against holiness.

I think you bumped your head there good buddy.

None of "the females" ever took "pity" on me. I might have gotten a date sometime before I reached 30, otherwise.

The one that was "upset" with you probably still is, but she didn't have a car at the time.
