MOst of the ultra cons I used to know would be opposed to larger "govermnent" under any circumstance.

Well, I'm not sure what people would consider ultra or con but most cons would be against larger goverment in my experience.

Well, the point about that is, why have the AS if it is not enforced? The cons believe strongly in their version of doctrinal purity and believe in separation from what they deem doctrinal impurity. It's not so contradictory as it may seem. However, I do see your point as well.
