True. Each time someone backslides, the harder it seems to come back.
The longer they are out, the harder it seems (to them) to come back.
I have tried to encourage my former youth leader to come back, he has been out for longer than 20 years & he feels he can never come back.
It breaks my heart.

Rhoni,
I have been attending the same church for 2 years, so I'm kind of shaking my head here, wondering where this came from??

It will not be the same.
And you wouldn't want it to be.
BUT, It can be Far better, or far worse. And that depends soley on you.
You weren't restored to the same as you were, you were brought further, deeper, and stronger. Because you didn't let the enemy convince you it couldnt happen.
You aren't the same as you were, you are better.

Our forum sometimes gets a bad rap because of some of the outlandish stuff. If I have a choice between 'edifying' and 'outlandish'... I'll take the edifying any day of the week!
As for dealing with those still in the pews struggling, well, that's where I got 'sidetracked' this morning. Was teaching about backsliding and got a little 'too involved' in teaching about HOW to backslide... and dealt with those struggling in pews that never find victory over it. I ended up spending a lot of my 'foundation' setting for the series dealing with guarding yourself so that you never have to be in a backslidden condition in the first place.

Don't forget, it's Gods message, he might want to say a lot more than you had planned!

Thought it was kind of funny that the exact song mentioned on this thread last night was sung in church this morning... then our pastor taught and preached on almost this exact same thing... not exactly exact though... started making me nervous! I was like hmmm do I REALLY know who steadfast is or not?!?

MUCH truth in these quotes. It does get easier in many cases and, yes, there are such things as 'serial backsliders' who are 'in and out' mainly for the attention they get going both directions.

For instance, I made reference last night to 3 different individuals PMing me about the thread with GREAT stuff... but they feared others would tear away at their posts.
"In this, brethren, we do not well."
But, honestly, only we can change it...

So lets change it!!!
Honestly, I had all but decided to leave the AFF for good because of the trash thats been on here so strong. This thread (and a few others like it) has given me hope for the forum, and I believe I will stay, and try to help change things. But its time we stand up and do it, not just sit back and dread it.

(I told you folks that I think this one is a 'keeper'!)
I don't think the forum has to be 'all work and no play' but I have to admit... it's threads like this that keep me hanging around.
I would have left a long time ago had it not been for that random spark of genuine substance. It just needs to 'spark' more often!
