I have been fortunate to be around churches where that kind of stupid nonsense wasn't ever tolerated.
I haven't seen actually classes taught, but while in school and traveling a lot with chorale and evangelism trips there were MANY times that altar call saddened me. The yelling in their ears to say things and actually taking their chins and trying to help them along. Numerous times I have witnessed this.

My pastor wouldn't have tolerated that for a second.

We were taught that you don't have to "help" the Spirit speak through a person.

Encouraging someone to worship is fine; trying to get them repeating some garbled phrase so fast that it sounds like tongues is bad juju.

I'd be scared to death to try and make someone think they had received the Holy Ghost if they hadn't.

As a pastor, I don't allow that goofy stuff in the altar either.

Thank the LORD!

I think it is very sad. I've seen people just get thick tongued and the minister will get in the mike and say "he's got it". I'm more comfortable letting the person tell that they received it.

And that is as it should be. When you receive the Spirit of Christ, you know it and don't need someone telling you.

My counsel to those in the altar is simply to seek the indwelling of the Spirit of the Almighty God not tongues. If they yield themselves to His infilling the tongues will take care of themselves. I have actually stopped seekers to have a conversation with them regarding what they are seeking. You would be surprised how many are seeking tongues. How misguided! Once they get the idea that they are there to seek the indwelling of the Holy Ghost instead of tongues they are quickly filled as it IS A PROMISE!
