One of the guys who was like that in our old church... we asked him what he wanted to do... just point blank... and his case was true of what you say... he said I will do anything you will let me do.... The house needed tons of work an so did the church... This man taught himself how to tile and how to do sheetrock and did the entire parsonage and church and was so so content and happy... he is now leading 3 bible study groups and thriving wonderfully!

Maybe giving these folks a job (usher or greeter, etc.) will help after all! Interesting!

Some in the case mentioned above yes it does... some there I think is no help... well.. there is but I think you know what I mean... some just want the attention and not to work and keep busy! But yes I have seen it to work wonderfully and not.. both sides of the board

We had one "hog" who drove us nuts continually wanting this and that and then she asked what she could do to help... I got all excited and called pastor that morning into my office and said yay I have help now! Thinking excitedly this was one of those good situations... Ok at this time I was overseeing a total remodel of a parsonage and church... trying to run the church, (as far as business wise) trying to get our cell groups going and juggle 3 groups my husband and I were teaching in our home every week and doing both choirs adult and youth and drama team and us also being youth pastors...So I gladly put this lady in charge of filing some papers I had just been brought (2 yrs worth of paperwork that had previously been stored in his home instead of the church)

Immediately after this due to some unfortunate circumstances this person was misplaced and ended up also living in my home (6 months actually) well... There was absolutely no work done... except to cook dinner 2 times a week.. the paper work was so much worse than when I began in the first place... all I could get done was follow this person around and then I had to do double duty... But the want want want never ended... It was a no win situation... She would run to the church the min the pastor drove up and start asking him what she could do and tell him about her run of the day problems... he would just say well if you want work go see T.... and well.. it was a vicious cycle that never ever ended. so it all depends on the person really and how genuine they really are
