Re: Terrible News and the Importance of Accountabi
Accountability involves a willingness to open yourself up and share sensitive or personal information. This is why trust is so imperative. If you sense trust, you are more open to share your innermost thoughts without concern of betrayal.

Abigail,
I missed this!!! Yes, they are. They would have to be. I'm not speaking of judicial matters, but matters of the heart.

Re: Terrible News and the Importance of Accountabi
I have 3 good female friends and a couple male friends who I feel I could share and tell anything to and that they would keep it confidential and earnestly, fervently and effectually pray for me.
When it comes to trust, sometimes you have no alternative but to place yourself in someone else's hands ... entrust yourself to their care and believe that they will honour your trust and confidence in them.
It can be very scary sometimes.

Re: Terrible News and the Importance of Accountabi
James 5:16 "Confess your faults one to another, and pray one for another, that ye may be healed. The effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much."
Faults - a side slip (lapse or deviation), that is, (unintentional) error or (wilful) transgression: - fall, fault, offence, sin, trespass.
There is good biblical support for being accountable to one another. I think that most people would be happy to be able to confide in another saint, and get nothing in return but love and wise counsel.

You have brought up an interesting point. If the victim told a minister he/she was being abused, the minister must report it to the law within 24 hours. If the abuser confessed to the minister, the minister is not required to report the penitant to the law. This is where a minister can be accused of "covering up" if the case becomes public.

I think we all understand that there are exceptions, but in general, accountability would be (hopefully) a safety net that would prevent people from falling completely into sin in the first place. Maybe if they had someone to talk to when the temptation first presented itself? The first idle thought?
Once the deed is done, its done, and depending on what it is...some things do have to be reported. No question.

This is not correct...
The Minister is required by Law I believe to report Child Abuse/Elderly Abuse immediately....

But temptation to do what??? If someone confessed somethings to you would you want to further associate yourself and risk your family's well being ?
