Just a couple of comments....
1) I'm fairly certain that facial hair in a sermon had nothing to do with LY being asked to leave his post.
2) As much I love LY and his wife, I think if everyone associated with the situation was completely honest with themselves, they would admit that if he hadn't be so "in your face" with the teaching that was the cause, he would not have been asked to leave. His boss was (is) very tolerant - until direct disobedience to a request takes place.
He was a GREAT teacher on just every day life and living for God - being a true Christian, family relationships, etc. I was very sorry to see him go.
BTW - is your avatar a picture of yourself?

I can almost always tell when certain subjects will bring SweetPea out of hiding. She seems to remain sweet in spite of any negativity ... and that's a point in her favor.

There are those that would disagree with you on that. Some would say I am too defensive.
And I knew my comments regarding LY would bring a comment from you. And as I typed them, I wondered if you would agree with my assessment or recollection of that situation.

You're not defensive just loyal to a fault! [When I find out who you really are I might change that. ] Your assessment of LY was pretty much correct at face value and his actions did hasten his departure. That being said, I did agree with where he was coming from and thought his leaving was a dark day in the history of the school. There were others there in leadership that had the same thoughts as he did only they didn't voice them. But that's muddy water under the bridge and I choose to look forward.

Re: David Bernard Weighs In on General Board Decis
Perhaps LY did things to hasten his departure and I do agree it was a dark day for the school. He was the best teacher we had, bar none. I was there when he preached his infamous message and I was one of the young ministers cheering him on when he said "Our young ministers sit on the sidelines as the blood flows as we fight each other. We have got to stop fighting and get along!" I asked his boss afterwards, who happened to also be my boss and we shared an adjoining walls in our respective offices, why he fired LY. He told me it was because of LY's reference in his message to OH wearing jewelry in her photos of the book she wrote about her husband. He got pretty agitated and said more than once "I can deal with teaching that 'light' stuff at the school. But he shouldn't have brought my mother into it! He should have left my mother out of it, that's why he's gone." Words cannot describe how profoundly disappointed I was to hear him say that. In my mind it was just more blood flowing and I thought he was above that sort of thing. Literally, it was at that moment that I began to plan my exit out of the UPC. It was a watershed moment for me as I stood in front of his desk in his office. I remember it like it was yesterday. I went into my office and shut the door and cried because I knew it was over for me. Perhaps that's not the real reason LY got canned, but it is the reason I was given from the man himself and I have to believe what he said to me personally.
Sweet Pea: No that's not me in my avatar. Like the other poster said, I could only wish I was that cool. haha.
