My experience has been that immigrants (illegal or not) fall into 2 categories.
They either love this nation, are glad to be here and thankful for what this nation has to offer or they want what this nation has to offer and yet hate it.
My point is this ... whenever this topic comes up ... many of the xenophobes hide behind this issue ... and guise their prejudices under national security ... and other things ... and say let's send 'em all back to Mexico ... w/ tacos from Taco bell.
the problem is 35-40% (conservatively) are not from Mexico ... we're going to send them to a country that's not their home????? Hello.
Is the issue.... illegal aliens ... for some ... or is it that they fear/despise a face, culture, and language they deem unAmerican?
It focuses on Mexican illegals because they make up the vast majority of illegal aliens. The proximity of Mexico and our lack of will to enforce the border has created this situation.
Don't act like it is us picking on poor lil ole Mexicans. I don't know the stat off the top of my head but I am willing to be they make up at least 90% of illegal immigrants.
To use stats from 1992-1996 is using stats from a whole other reality than what is going on now and has over the last few years.
The xenophobes on talk radio were saying this in the 90's too... give me a break.
