Allergies to peanuts are becoming more and more common (according to our allergist). At our Wal-Mart, there are very few Wal-Mart brand foods that I can buy because almost everything they make says it "may contain peanuts" or that it is "processed in a facility that processes peanuts". For Keith those are too dangerous. He can't have regular M&M's even.
Fortunately for us, Keith is very, very diligent about checking everything he eats before he will even touch it. And all of his friends realize the gravity of the situation so we've done ok so far. We live in a small town tho, so I'm holding my breath for when it becomes time for him to go away to college. I wonder if I can store up prayers even now for that time four years from now?

It's good that he is so aware. If it's life threatning you have to be diligent. I know what you mean about processing. One of my grandsons is allergic to green beans, I opened a can of corn one day and when I poured it in the pan there was a green bean in the bottom of it. Once I even found a perfectly preserved grasshopper in a can. It was purple. My son in law is allergic to eggs and they told them when they had babies to wait until they are toddlers to feed their kids anything a parent is allergic to just in case. And don't worry about him at school God will take care of him.

EWWWWWW!!!! We went to eat at a local Mexican restaurant one time. Got the cheese dip and chips for an appetizer. When I dipped a chip in the bowl, I scooped up a dead cockroach! I almost lost it then and there! Normally I am a very patient person but this was toooooooo much!
The doctor has told us with Keith that the peanut allergy will only ever get worse. That they don't typically get better, especially when they start out as over the top of the chart as his is. She also told me that it is extremely likely that any children he produces will inherit the allergy because it does tend to run in families. Since he's adopted we don't know if he has anyone in his genetic history with the same kinds of allergies. When they tested him for allergies at age 3, they did the backscratch test for 40 different things (not peanuts. That was a blood test). He tested very positive for 39 of them (altho how they could tell I don't know since his entire back turned into one huge welt. They ended up giving him a shot of Epi to stop the reactions! The allergist told me it was the first time she had ever had to do that)

Wow, that is scary. You just never know until you have a reaction. We don't have any food allergies that I know of. But we found out one of my sons is allergic to wasps, bees, and ants. We found out once when he was little he got stung on the temple by a red wasp. I was outside with him and noticed it started swelling right away so we took him to the ER.
