We have lost several good men in our family to the military, both past and present (recent). We are very proud of them, and although we mourn their loss, we do not blame the government for their choice to lay down their lives for this country.

Many times it seems that families who have lost men (and women) to wars, conflicts and other military related incidents are less angry or upset about it than those who have not suffered such loss. Why is that?

Because if one of my family members weighs out the risk, decides to enlist, and then dies fighting I would know that it was his/her decision to take that risk. Why people who haven't lost loved ones in battle don't seem to see that doesn't make sense to me either.
