That may be apart of it, but I think it also involves the lack of skin exposure in non-sexual situations. I've seen Europian style commercials (via you tube and simular services) where they openly use nudity is situations where nudity would be expected (as in a shower for a body wash add) which as I'm told would go out on the TV through the free airwaves. In America, every time we see skin through the media, it's almost always in a sexual context. Although that tide is beginning to change with some of the more recent commercials.
I'm not suggesting that we should all dress immodestly, but if the American society would allow skin to be shown outside of a sexual context maybe we as a whole wouldn't have a skin=sex mindset, thereby moving toward a status where we no longer lead the world in deviant sexual crimes. Of course, that's just my opinion and it's not worth the advertised price of 2cents.
