Well
You are like the standards police on the forum. So I wanted to see you live and in action teaching to your choir. It was a joke.

No real problem exists over the use of "The Name" in everthing else done in the Church. Why then should there exist great controversy over the use of the "The Name of the Godhead" in water baptism?

Re: Folks COMMANDED to Remove Ornaments.
Really
When I was in a big Op choir every once in a while the CD would get up and tell everybody that they had to do such and such to remain in the choir. Some did and some didn't -- then they would make us sign a sheet. It never bothered me because I being a guy didn't really have to do anything different.

It makes sense to me that some people don't want to wear jewelry as they feel for them it is a sin. And they have scripture they use to support their belief.

The more I see and study these things out the more I see you really need to seek out your own salvation with fear and trembling.
Some areas I see that can be a concern about buying jewelry is that most of the good stuff is really expense. This is an issue with my husband. Before I was back in church he bought me jewelry for Christmas. Now he says he never knows what to buy me.
And we can always say that could have been given to the missionaries, but honestly we could say that about everything. Those fries you had with that hamburger could have gone to the missionaries.
My point being folks are going to have to develop their own relationship with God. The things of this world can draw you away from that relationship.
Too much time spent on the internet. Too much time spent playing golf, or fishing, or shopping. These are things of this world. Not everything "thing" is an object of value; such as homes, jewelry etc.

Esther, I understand your point & you actually highlighted a point that those who are against jewelry point to.
What line?
It has shifted and does continue to shift, furthermore those who have any inclination are ridiculed for that stand.
If (libs) feel so liberated by there stand, they won't mind those of us who do think there is an issue with it.
Look, I don't start these threads, nor do I rarely post in them cuz they are unfruitful.
You do have a point in clothes, I have a problem with preachers & $1,000 suits.
I have only wore 3 brand new suits in my life & I never paid more than $150 for one.
Most of my wardrobe was given to me by others, & others I found good buys at Value Village! Some with the new sticker on it.
I don't know if posting these things are even worthwhile discussions.
I try to live as modestly as possible.
Makeup & Jewelry only serve to highlight self.

Esther,
Good post. I think the premise of the passage in Exodus was certainly pride.
Jewelry is not a necessity in my life and therefore, for me, it was and would be, always, a materialistic thing.
When I first got in church I had a fur coat. As I began to get closer to God I felt uncomfortable wearing it to church.
I heard a preacher say, "If you can't worship God wearing what you have on, take it off. If you have too much money in your wallet and it hinders your worship, lighten the load."
I agree with him! Some things can stand in our way.
I remember a time when I worked in sales, I could feel how materalistic I was becoming. I worked in a gorgeous building on Townlake in Austin. One morning as I was going to work I stopped by the lake, took out my perfume bottle, walked to a rock, broke it and poured the perfume out. I said, "God, I want to show you that I don't love money more than I love you."
Less than a month later, we had a huge church split, my husband lost his job, I got sick from being pregnant, had to quit, we lost our truck, our home, etc.
My husband said, "I AM NEVER BUYING YOU ANOTHER BOTTLE OF PERFUME - AGAIN!"

What about combing your hair? Tucking in your shirt? Wearing deodorant? Ironing your clothes? All of those things are done to make yourself more presentable to others. The fact is there is nothing in Scripture that hints at forbidding Jewelry when taken in context, so when preachers forbid it they are going beyond Scripture and adding to what God requires.

LOL - I was going to say that (not the blonde part), but didn't want to hinder the flow of the thread!

No real problem exists over the use of "The Name" in everthing else done in the Church. Why then should there exist great controversy over the use of the "The Name of the Godhead" in water baptism?
