No, that doesn't mean he practiced medicine. Luke was an Apostle first and then a physician second. He would probably pray for you first and you would be healed.
I know of a doctor who would pray for you and wouldn't charge you, but if he had to prescribe you medication and look at what ailed you, then he would charge you. Sounds like a wise physician to me.
