I guess I'm not one of those "guys" you describe above but I'll chime in anyhoo...
First of all, I haven't really seen anyone tell others that they HAD to have a television. The argument is usually - "Who are you to tell others that they cannot have a television. This is an important distinction because it focuses upon individual freedoms and conscience (
Romans 14).
I think at least some of your apparent anger or frustration should be dispelled when you see the strawman in your argument.
Next, for myself... there is obviously no Scriptural reason to
have to have a television- any more than there's any reason to put our Bibles into codex form instead of the ancient scroll format used by the originals. There are simply matters of convenience and expedience involved. Technology should make our lives better.
So, once you stop projecting your own desire to control upon others and realize that most people have a live and let live attitude about these things, you will finally be at peace with yourself and, I believe, your friendships and other relationships will thrive.
... Not to mention the benefit that such peace will bring to your walk with God.
