I had someone tell me that the reason I left the UPC (like 18 months ago, BTW) and changed my views (I believe they used backslid) was simply so that I could get a divorce now.

Well that is the reason then. What a joke. Some people think they are the authority on certain things and only thing they prove is how foolish they do. Professing themselves wise they became fools. Leaving church does not alway directly affect a marriage though it can happen. It is amazing that often times those in the ship can't see out side the ship because of the ship. If you know what I mean.

How calculating of you! You saw it coming 18 months ago! LOL. Sorry, this happened to you, both the church mess and the divorce. I hope and trust that the backslide quote is a misnomer.

I learned long ago, that no matter what you do, there is always going to be someone who doesn't approve. That's why at the end of the day, there is only one opinion that matters!

Hmmmm...whether or not I am a backslider depends on your perspective. I would say that a good 90% of the membership of AFF would consider it to be a valid title. I suppose we could do a poll..... LOL
I of course, consider myself to be...ah...frontslid...I guess

Backsliders generally know they are backslidden and don't deny the faith, they just are not living it. Those that deny the faith are reprobates
I consider Mich to be reprobate concerning the faith, not backslidden

It depends again on what you mean by "the faith". Do I believe in God? Yes. Do I believe that Jesus is God? yes. Do I believe in Salvation by faith alone in Jesus Christ alone? Yeeeessss..... (That was me kind of wavering on that one...because whereas I believe it, at the same time, I have a hard time casting anyone into hell for any reason, or deciding who is or is not saved).
But I have issues with the Bible, with Church, and with most theology, doctrine and traditions.
Now one could say that I am still working through my issues, or one could say that I have completely walked away. Again, all a matter of perspective.

Berk, it doesn't bother me in the least. I have in fact used the word as a description of myself in the past. By Prax's definition, I AM a reprobate. (though according to my beliefs, I obviously am not )
