It's adopting the Bible line of christianity my brother. Read it and see how many times APOSTLES were addressed by their first names.
If it was good for Paul and Silas...it's good enough for me and you.

Is this just when we are in church, or in the grocery store too?
And, what about family members?

Actually when you think about it, in some ways titles can actually be disrespectful. It implies that those without such a title are less worthy of respect.

Re: Title Usage In The UPC: Brother & Sister So an
You know anothe rgood reason that dropping the usage of titles is the demand from some, like Whole Hearted and Bro Herb Hubert, that we address them as Brother
That they say it is disrepectful not to adddress other christians as Bro or Sis is hogwash , pure and simple.
There is NO bible to back it.
Of course NO bible does'nt stop us OPs on a plethora of other No bible Doctrines we impose people.

It actually reminds me of one of my first office jobs, a long long time ago. It was a second shift position, and I was a temp, though I worked by myself. It was a major cheese manufacturer, and I input production information into their tracking system.
Anyway, occasionally suits that were working late would stop in and ask me a question or whatever. One night, this guy "Bob" (I don't really remember his name, but that's how he introduced himself to me, by his first name) came in and asked me a few questions, and chatted with me for awhile.
The next day at shift change, when talking to the day girl, I mentioned in passing something that Bob had said, and she looked all panicked and said "You mean Bob SMITH? The president of the company???"
And I was all calm and said "The President, Really? Hmmm...I didn't know that"
The reason that I was not at all concerned is that I always treat people with courtesy and respect whether they are a janitor or the President of the company. And it has always served me well.

This practice is nothing more than church tradition. It started with the Puritans, and carried over for years and years, and the UPC has just been a little reticient to let go of the tradition.
If you study the NT, you won't find many places where they referred to each other as "Brother or Sister".
