My imagination can take me terrible places very quickly, especially when it comes to my children.

The truth is, that while we can and should provide for the future, that we still must at the end of the day place our worries and cares with God where they belong. If things truly go bad, it will be bad for everyone--including those with a few extra groceries, ammo and gold in their safe.

I'm not saying one shouldn't plan. Look at Joseph--planned ahead for a 7 year famine, and ended up aiding the family who had (mostly) forsaken him. God does give us the wisdom to make good decisions, but yet, none of the family back home could have predicted Joseph would end up in Egypt, or that he would be the one to give them food in time of famine, could they? That was purely providential intervention and care. God providing for what they couldn't possibly predict--or maybe even adequately plan for, had they known.

There are all kinds of terrible possibilities, especially when it comes to our children growing up in this world. But children have grown up in much worse times than these. And survived. And thrived. And been greater Christians with greater character because of it.
Sis, you are talking about a series of events that could happen - someday. I am speaking about an event that is unfolding CURRENTLY, and that many respected economists are predicting will only worsen over the coming weeks and months.

The thing that separates us is belief. I believe we are in a deepening economic depression of a magnitude we have never imagined. You, obviously, do not.

I also believe that our enemies will test us during this economic upheaval. Apparently, you do not share that belief. It's all good.

Exactly. We all need to listen for His voice, and we aren't all going to necessarily hear the same things. God tends to deal with individual situations, which is one of the things I love about Him. He's the greatest multi-tasker EVER!

The Bible contains basic principles we should all be following in regard to debt, stewardship and planning for the future. Beyond that, an open communication line is really all that is needed.

Actually, that's not quite correct. I really don't know. Some are predicting better times ahead, other predictions are very dire. Since I don't know, and can't predict tomorrow with definity, then my only recourse is to keep doing what I know to do and trust God to handle the rest.

The problem I have with that statement is it implies that I do not trust God simply because I have concerns.

Well, if you are spending any significant amount worrying about the future, then I'll just be so offensive as to say--you need to put more trust in God and not worry so much. If you're not worried, then my statement doesn't really apply to you.

Planning is good. Just don't let your concerns interfere with your confidence in God's ability to provide for your family in times of crisis.

I remember a song Bro. N.A. Haynes used to sing...I love to sing it to myself sometimes...

Why worry about tomorrow?
Why worry if your steps are getting slow?
If your life has been spent for Jesus,
You don't have much farther to go.

For the next hand you shake, could be the hand of the Saviour,
The next step you take, could be on a street of purest gold,
Your next meal, could be the marriage supper...of the Lamb,
And the next touch you feel, He could be blessing your soul.

I don't remember the 2nd verse, but I can hear him singing it in my head.

There's something to be said for simple faith. All I'm saying is--plan, plan, plan, but when you're done planning, don't worry.
