Re: Changing Denominations

Rhoni:
I walked out of church approximately 30 years ago ( an independent-AMF-) because Of a lot of what I perceived then as plain ole interfering church ladies, and when my husband left because he said he could not live 'that way' meaning Apostolic, my then pastor told me that my place was with my husband. That didn't happen. Anyway, I could never forget about God, and it was only His love, mercy and compassion that I am in church today (UPC) I still don't fit the 'mold' and some people in church openly tell me that I am doing everything wrong since I trim my hair and wear a little make-up, but now I'm like a duck--I let the remarks roll off my back. My pastor has never been negative toward me in any way. He's the greatest! He has said from the pulpit that he is not our police but our pastor. All I can say is that it is between me and God now. I don't worry about what others think of me.

From some of your posts, I have sensed a lot of hurt and anguish. Who am I to judge you? I have never walked in your shoes but I understand. I only wish you the best in whatever decision you make. Just never let go of His hand.

Excellent post! Words of wisdom.

I don't see much wisdom in saying your Pastor says "don't do it" but you do it anyway and let it roll off your back like a duck. It's more like STUBBORN. I'm sorry, but these comments get high-fived way too easy. If you are going to do things your way, then find a church that will do it your way. (I'm sure your pastor is a patient man that loves you.. and his police remarks mean... there is still things we do/don't do, but I won't be handing out citations.)

Your vision isn't perfect today!

Try reading her post again.

For what it's worth.....

I believe in the Oneness of God, and Baptism in Jesus Name.

But deep down inside I really feel like we put a limit on Gods Love, mercy and grace. I don't belong to a church and haven't for years. I'd like to find one. But when I did I was strugling to see the love of our God....the one who died on the cross.

I did. Is there something you want to point out?

This is what she said about her pastor:
Quote:
My pastor has never been negative toward me in any way. He's the greatest! He has said from the pulpit that he is not our police but our pastor.
Meaning her pastor lets the Spirit do the convicting when it comes to things that aren't outright declared to be sin or unholy. He has never reprimanded her for wearing a little makeup or trimming her hair. So she is not being stubborn or rebellious to those that have the rule over her and are watching out for her soul. The ones with the problem are other saints in the church that want her to tow a line that she doesn't feel God has drawn for her.

I hope I got that correct, Martha.

Let her clarify that if she would. Policing means ENFORCEMENT. Preaching require declaring. I would hope the pastor isn't shrinking to the congregation because of one person and not preaching it! If the saints are curious, it is likely it's not the way they do things and she probably knows better.

Ummmm, you may want to re-read the post. She says her pastor has not told her she needed to do anything other than what she is doing.

The members of the church are the ones who are giving her problems about the way she is living.
