Ummm...to be fair, I didn't mention the UPC or standards' keeping churches in my post at all. And I certainly didn't say that nothing is sin. I simply said that words in and of themselves aren't necessarily sin, but it is all about how they are used.
The following words are not swear words, but I doubt you would disagree that they can be used sinfully:
fat, stupid, ugly, moron, idiot, imbecile, cow, loser, retarded....etc...

My point is that you accused me, personally, of giving ex-UPC'ers a bad rap, and of saying that nothing is a sin, and that current UPC members aren't even in Christ.

An apology and a correction to your original post would be nice.

Re: This Is Why We Get a Bad Rap!!
Did she use any words that the pastor from Gainesville doesn't use in his sermons?
Vulgarity isn't a reflection of past or present church membership - it's a heart and a head problem.
This psycho-babble about strict upbringing and newfound liberty is silly.

Thank you! Not being raised in the UPC, I find the statement to be outrageously silly! Because I know when you are carnal........there is no other explanation or excuse needed! I know when I'm being carnal and I don't blame that on anyone or anything except for myself!

Well then your point would be incorrect. I never accused you of saying anything about upc members. You came up concering your post about words being sinful or not.

I have no problem at all with you disagreeing with my point. But I do object to you words where you imply that I (along with DG) said things that I did not.
Once again I quote your words

Once again, I am asking that you correct your post and apologize for implying that I said things that I did not.
Normally, I would just let this go. But I have gotten accused in the past (and it may have then been true) for being a UPC basher, a hater, a bitter ex-upc'er, etc. And I have been very careful to avoid such things in the present.

What I can't figure out is when it is possible to use certain obscenities in a manner in which they are inoffensive.
The words you offered, I agree they are mostly offensive. We don't allow our children to use stupid, loser, retarded, etc., and I can't think of very many times when we would allow them to use the other words you listed, either.
I will agree that the words in and of themselves don't possess an inherent sinful nature. LOL!!!! That would be in the mouth of the speaker. (or not) Personally, I don't like to hear or read a lot of curse words either. I find that they get into my brain and tend to vie for verbal use, and so if I want to avoid using curse words, I need to protect my eyes and ears from them as well.
What's down in the well comes up in the bucket and all that. At the same time, I know that curse words are just part of some folks' culture, it's just how they talk. So I don't necessarily judge the state of a person's heart or their motives based on what language they use. Or, at least, I try NOT to be exceedingly judgmental. I am offended by obscene language in my presence, and so it's a bit of a balancing act. I wouldn't hesitate to ask someone not to use a word in front of me, or especially in front of my children.

When you stub a toe?
I don't have children, and I don't hang around many conservative Christians.
I am the office manager of several companies, all in the construction field.
And my dogs don't care.

LOL!!!! Okay, surprisingly, I'm going to agree with you on this finer point. Although I do believe we should try to keep our mouths clean for the sake of our own consciences, it is true that much of what is offensive is determined by who is in the room. (Same with modesty--obviously God isn't offended by nudity, in and of itself.)
I do believe that taking God's name in vain is disrespectful to Him, and since He can always hear, then I don't suppose there's ever a "safe" time for that.
