People's actions make them suspect. Personally, I just think this guy's stupid because he shouldn't carry this kind of cash while traveling. He asked for it in my opinion. Detaining him until he was cleared caused him no harm.
Put yourself in the shoes of airport security.
Sometimes you just have to do things that in the normal world wouldn't be the wisest. When we carried the huge amount of money into Kenya, it was necessary! We split it between four of us, but each of us carried over $5K in cash. Thankfully no one questioned it. I didn't even know it could even be possibly considered as something illegal or questionable.
If I were to get detained in the U.S., I would be aggravated, but not too concerned. If I were to get detained in Kenya, then I would start to worry.

Wow... I had not, heretofore, ever read an oxymoronic statement.

That is completely bad and responsibility would negate application.
D4, like I said before, it does not always happen along the lines of race or looks or religion. This scenario is a prime example of someone who does fit a profile that generally merits an additional look. Often, someone flying with large amounts of cash hidden away that they absolutely do not want to discuss at all (not even giving basic info) is a red flag. I don't think that responsible application is impossible or an oxymoron.

Agreed!
Now, it was said his cash was in his luggage - would that be his carry-on or
his checked baggage? Because if it was in his checked baggage - he is an idot! lol
