I also knew them personally, but never thought about this.
It's one of those statements that I tend to immediately reject, but it has been churning in my mind, since then.

They got a good manager that had them get professional lessons, forced them to practice more and harder. They already had the talent obviously.

Natural musical talent gets better with practice and teaching
