As someone who went to the last two Youth Congresses, and who is not an "ultracon", I must agree with my brother... compromise and confusion run rampant there, and silly standards of hair and skirt length are boasted about...

Stupid statement! The Holy Ghost shows up at our place all the time, and I'm sure you wouldn't think so. Guess what? The Holy Ghost isn't limited by your narrow thinking.

Far too many people are held captive by the idea that if they are in control, then God is in control.
You're probably too polite to say so Sherri, but I am of the opinion that this represents the worst form of blasphemy.

My goodness...where to begin?!
You are such an authority on the Holy Ghost, you know He won't be there?!
And your response is based on what?!
The fact that songs were sung not meeting your approval?!
A guest was invited not on your welcome list?!
The dress was casual, thus not up your standard of whatever?!
Here is my unasked for advice...
If there are things in the Youth Dept. on a local, district, state, or national level not meeting your approval, get yourself appointed to a department head position and make the changes you deem need changing.
If this is not feasible, voice your opinions to the powers that be in words that gender a positive response.
I can assure you, hollering that they are a bunch of compromisers will not get you a listening ear.
Words seasoned with grace produce a peaceful discussion. Try it sometime...

Well......you can please some of the people some of the time, but you can't please all the people all the time.
I just pray that God is in control, and all is not in vein.

Could I ask the last Youth Congress you attended?
I think you and a few others know a bit about me, at least that I am not the type of person that says GOD can't show up in a place because the people aren't in suits or anything like that. What I saw at my last two NAYC's was a lack of reverance, pride in dress and attitude, a coldness in fellowship, and a great immaturity.
You may say, "Immaturity- of course, you're talking about a Youth Convention!" I say that is NO excuse. There is a transforming work that the HG does, whether you are old or young, and there just didn't seem to be a transformed group of young people there. The conversations were not about the LORD or the Scriptures, but who was dating who, or who was wearing what, or where people were staying/eating/shopping. Sure you can get to "church" physically for service, but we are supposed to be the church, and I saw a lot of "churched kids", and I came from a family that didn't know the LORD, and I don't know if the LORD was just a "casual thing" for the youth or if they just didn't want to BE the church or what it was... It was dead. May the LORD do a work in that organization.

Amen!!
My patience is growing mighty thin with those who sit in the back pew, arms folded, looking for any breach of their self imposed hard line.
If someone is immodestly dressed, as in their business is exposed to the world, then yes...it goes without saying we have a problem that needs addressing.
If someone is teaching false doctrine from the pulpit, of course it must be addressed.
But as for the rest, why not just let Almighty God be God?! He's been at His business a long time...

Unfortunately, this is something that you'll find at many youth conferences, from the liberalest liberal, to the most conservative ultra-con.

Dude, I feel sorry for you... and I'm usually the UPC's biggest critic!
My kids have gone to all the Youth Congresses since I stopped going. They participated in the volunteer projects last time around and had a great time and did a real service for the host city.
My wife commented that the services were super-charged worship times and generally a good time was had by all.
There were some who posted here about "fog machines" being used - a laughable lie. But for some reason people who express concerns about the Youth Congress "lacking holiness" will lie about just about anything. I wonder why lying isn't considered a sin by those folks, but showing elbows is?
Anyway, not to get too personal with you here, (I know you're NOT in the group I described above ) but do you find that you have less than fulfilling times at other types of gatherings as well? I do.
I found General Conferences, camps and all of those types of meetings just never seemed to satisfy me spiritually. In time I began to realize that part of it was that I had some rather unrealistic expectations going in; but another part was that I just didn't enjoy the large crowds. In other words, my problem with these things was simply that it wasn't my thing. I find a much greater spiritual experience one-on-one and in smaller groups - but that's just me. Obviously, there are others who are blessed by other gatherings.
I would advise that you seek out the experiences that do satisfy you. Sometimes, like me perhaps, you will get dragged to a meeting that you might have otherwise skipped, or you might visit something just to check it out. I think it's not too wise to pass judgement upon others in such circumstances because your own mood may cloud your perceptions of what God is doing in the lives of others.
