Perhaps some aspects could be changed. Not amnesty. Not relaxing laws against illegal immigration. Mostly the law just needs to be enforced and abided by.

Instead of kowtowing to the demands of La Raza and other immigrant activists - whose end game is a complete opening of the borders without any legal immigration process - and instead of granting amnesty (a la Reagan) to gain a bigger voting bloc ...

Enforce the law.

There are always changes made by Congress to the number of immigrants allowed - that's fine...Congress has that right and power.

As for Aurelie ... a compelling story. Almost bought it. However, the key words here are "TOURIST VISA."

I entered the U.S. legally (my parents brought me here when I was a teenager, on a tourist Visa).

You came for a visit as a tourist. The Tourist visa has a date it expires. It's quite simple. The legal process is to return to your country and from there, you CAN begin the process of gaining legal status in the US. But you have to leave to do this.

Don't complain about the law. You broke it by remaining here past the date allowed. A tourist visa is to visit the US, not live in the US.

I'm wondering whether or not your parents lied to get you here... A tourist visa is a lot easier to obtain and for the most part, rarely do the Feds follow up to ensure the leave dates are enforced.

You write a compelling story, but sorry ... you broke the law. We don't need to change it to allow you to stay. There is a legal process you conveniently left out. It's not going to be easy because you've stayed past the date and broke the law. It means returning to your country of origin and applying for status from there. But there is a way. You just don't like it.
